Horse Riding in Argentina, South America

What a country, what a wilderness, what a place to ride.

Trekking on the Argentine horse in
PatagoniaWide open spaces that meet the sky on some far distant horizon, no crops to avoid, no gates to close, no roar of traffic, no urban chatter. In fact the only noise is the birds in the sky, or on the nearby water or your horse's or your own heavy breathing after a gallop that didn't seem to get you any closer to the distant edge of the plains.

This country was made for horses. The Argentine horse, small and surefooted with lots of stamina and used to long days ranching, is responsive and even-tempered and should prove an enjoyable ride for both beginners and experienced riders. Do be honest about your abilities. There is nothing clever about being run-away with because you were too proud to admit that you had ridden a lot but only in an enclosed school, where your horse couldn't go anywhere even if it wanted to!

Working with the Gauchos rounding
up sheepWhether you choose a gentle ride near Bariloche through the bamboo forests on the high ground and the lake shore below where you can admire the coihue trees, or prefer a chance to get involved in some sheep or cattle ranching near Calafate, or just wish to ride in the open plains amongst the pampas enjoying the beauty of the landscape and wildlife hoping for that rare chance to sight a puma, the sheer pleasure of riding through this unrestricted country will stay with you forever.
Please note that if you wish to ride with a riding hat you must take your own because these will not be provided since it is not a legal requirement in Argentina to wear a hard hat whilst riding.

Client comments:
"I hadn't been on a horse for a while, but I was assured that it wouldn't be difficult and that the horses were gentle enough even for complete beginners. Once I got the hang of it, it was a bit like driving. You flick the reins to your left and the horse turns to the left. A quick flick of your wrist to the right and that is where you go! Unlike pony trekking I had done here in Britain, where the horse behind follows the tail of the one in front - these horses wait for your guidance. This was a much more satisfying experience, a bit like being given the keys to a new car! Horse riding in Argentina is an experience that will stay with me forever."
